Named Storm Imelda – 2019 Additional…
We are saddened to hear of the death and all the devastating flooding in southeastern Texas from nearly 40 inches of rain in places from Named Storm Imelda.

Named Storm Jerry has formed out of a Tropical Depression about 1000 miles east of the Leeward Islands. This storm is tracking to the west-northwest at 12 to 15 mph. The National Hurricane Center is projecting that “Jerry” will become a Hurricane within the next 48 to 72 hours or so.
This storm has the potential to affect the US Southeastern Coast from south Florida to the North Carolina – Virginia border to some degree. Tracking models are not in complete agreement at this early date and variations in steering currents are difficult to predict at this time.
Persons in Puerto Rico, Hispaniola, the Bahamas, and coastal areas of Florida, Georgia, and the Carolinas should be monitoring the progress of Named Storm Jerry.

Tropical Storm Imelda formed just off the east coast of Texas from Tropical Depression Eleven that had been moving westerly across the central Gulf of Mexico for the past several days. This storm was making landfall near Freeport, Texas at just about the same time that it was named by the National Hurricane Center.
Imelda is bringing high rainfall rates to the general area just north of Galveston. Some lowlands flooding. high surf and beach erosion can be expected as this storm moves north to northwest over the next several days.
We are also watching a potential named storm (Tropical Depression Ten) located approximately 1100 miles East Southeast of the Leeward Islands. If this becomes a Named Storm, we will post another unofficial advisory accordingly.

Named Storm Humberto formed in the Bahamas from Tropical Depression Nine. This storm will be moving generally northward well off the east coast of Florida and is projected by the National Hurricane Center to turn to the northeast on Sunday. It will then track into the central Atlantic over the next week or so. Persons along the east coast of Florida can expect high surf, moderate rain at times and rip currents. Humberto is forecast to become a Hurricane, but since it will most likely be well out to sea at that time, the effects to the southeastern US will be minimal. Persons in Bermuda may see Tropical Storm conditions by mid to late week. If any unanticipated westward movement takes place, we will update our unofficial information accordingly.

We are now expanding our ‘unofficial’ statement posted Sept. 12, to include the northern Gulf of Mexico states as well as the East Coast of the US from Florida to the North Carolina – Virginia border, for persons to monitor the progression of “Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine”. Computer modeling from all reporting agencies currently (6:30 AM EDT, Friday, September 13, 2019) is showing substantial differences in projected tracks. Special Weather Statement, September 12, 2019 (Unofficial).
An area of disturbed weather and thunderstorms is currently located in the southern Bahamas and is moving northwest. The National Hurricane Center will be referring to this area of disturbed weather as Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine, as of 5 PM, September 12, 2019. Due to it’s close proximity to areas of the Bahamas that were severely affected by Hurricane Dorian recently as well as it’s close proximity to the State of Florida, we are recommending that all persons in the Bahamas and Florida monitor this situation carefully. Rapid intensification is possible and this would not leave much time for persons in it’s path to prepare.

Named Storm Dorian is quickly crossing the Maritime Provinces of eastern Canada. It has made another landfall near Oak Island, Nova Scotia, and will be entering the North Atlantic by Sunday Afternoon. This deadly storm has caused chaos in 3 countries and is one for the record books.
This will be our final mention of Named Storm Dorian. However, another tropical wave has formed southwest of the Cape Verde Islands, in a very similar location to where Dorian formed. We will start a new Named Storm post as needed.

Tropical Storm Gabrielle formed in the east central Atlantic from a Tropical Depression. This storm will remain in the Atlantic moving generally northwest, then north and will not pose a threat to the US coast. At this time, this will be our only mention of Named Storm Gabrielle.
Hurricane Dorian continues to move northerly along the east coast of Florida and Georgia. It will start to move north-northeast later today and will be affecting the coastal areas of the Carolinas through early Saturday. Persons in coastal areas from Jacksonville, Florida to the Outer Banks should be monitoring Hurricane Dorian carefully.

Tropical Storm Fernand formed in the southwestern Gulf of Mexico from a surface low pressure area. Movement is west northwest and will not be affecting the USA. This will be our only mention of Named Storm Fernand.
Hurricane Dorian has finally started to move northwest after being stalled for nearly two days. Unfortunately, the northern Bahamas as been catastrophically affected with many lives lost.
Hurricane Dorian today is a Cat 2 and the NHC track projections will bring it close to the Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina coastal areas over the next 4 to 6 days. Persons in these coastal areas are already under many warnings and evacuation orders.

Named Storm Dorian – 2019: UPDATE Sept. 01 @ 5:00 AM EDT
Hurricane Dorian has slowed it’s forward progress due to a weakening of the mid level steering current in the Atlantic. As of 5 AM EDT, Sept. 01, Dorian is a 150 MPH Cat 4 Hurricane that is starting to batter the northern Bahamas. As of 5 AM Sunday, the National Hurricane Center has projected that the hurricane’s eye will not make a direct landfall in Florida, but curve to the north, remain as a major hurricane for several days, weaken slightly and follow the southeast COAST of the US toward Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina over the next 6 to 8 days. We must also mention that east coastal Florida and southeast coastal Georgia and the Carolinas remain in the cone of probability for actual landfall. This NHC projection may change several times in the upcoming days.
Persons in east coastal areas from Miami, Florida, to Atlantic Beach, North Carolina are being advised to monitor this situation carefully and if MANDATORY Evacuation orders are issued, to follow those orders.

ADDITIONAL DATA: Hurricane Hunter aircraft verified at 9:30 AM EDT Sept. 01, 2019 – CAT 5 @ 175 MPH sustained with gusting to 206 MPH near the eyewall. Slowing forward movement over the northern Bahamas today before making a northerly turn Monday into Tuesday. Unfortunately, this will be a deadly storm that still may impact parts of coastal Florida, coastal Georgia and the coast of the Carolinas to some degree.
Coastal residents from southeastern Florida to the North Carolina / Virginia border should be ready for coastal flooding, heavy rip currents, some inland flooding, beach erosion, very gusty winds, heavy rain, lightning and potential tornadoes.
