Named Storm Dorian is quickly crossing the Maritime Provinces of eastern Canada. It has made another landfall near Oak Island, Nova Scotia, and will be entering the North Atlantic by Sunday Afternoon. This deadly storm has caused chaos in 3 countries and is one for the record books.

This will be our final mention of Named Storm Dorian. However, another tropical wave has formed southwest of the Cape Verde Islands, in a very similar location to where Dorian formed. We will start a new Named Storm post as needed.

Tropical Storm Gabrielle formed in the east central Atlantic from a Tropical Depression. This storm will remain in the Atlantic moving generally northwest, then north and will not pose a threat to the US coast. At this time, this will be our only mention of Named Storm Gabrielle.
Hurricane Dorian continues to move northerly along the east coast of Florida and Georgia. It will start to move north-northeast later today and will be affecting the coastal areas of the Carolinas through early Saturday. Persons in coastal areas from Jacksonville, Florida to the Outer Banks should be monitoring Hurricane Dorian carefully.

Tropical Storm Fernand formed in the southwestern Gulf of Mexico from a surface low pressure area. Movement is west northwest and will not be affecting the USA. This will be our only mention of Named Storm Fernand.
Hurricane Dorian has finally started to move northwest after being stalled for nearly two days. Unfortunately, the northern Bahamas as been catastrophically affected with many lives lost.
Hurricane Dorian today is a Cat 2 and the NHC track projections will bring it close to the Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina coastal areas over the next 4 to 6 days. Persons in these coastal areas are already under many warnings and evacuation orders.

Named Storm Dorian – 2019: UPDATE Sept. 01 @ 5:00 AM EDT
Hurricane Dorian has slowed it’s forward progress due to a weakening of the mid level steering current in the Atlantic. As of 5 AM EDT, Sept. 01, Dorian is a 150 MPH Cat 4 Hurricane that is starting to batter the northern Bahamas. As of 5 AM Sunday, the National Hurricane Center has projected that the hurricane’s eye will not make a direct landfall in Florida, but curve to the north, remain as a major hurricane for several days, weaken slightly and follow the southeast COAST of the US toward Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina over the next 6 to 8 days. We must also mention that east coastal Florida and southeast coastal Georgia and the Carolinas remain in the cone of probability for actual landfall. This NHC projection may change several times in the upcoming days.
Persons in east coastal areas from Miami, Florida, to Atlantic Beach, North Carolina are being advised to monitor this situation carefully and if MANDATORY Evacuation orders are issued, to follow those orders.

ADDITIONAL DATA: Hurricane Hunter aircraft verified at 9:30 AM EDT Sept. 01, 2019 – CAT 5 @ 175 MPH sustained with gusting to 206 MPH near the eyewall. Slowing forward movement over the northern Bahamas today before making a northerly turn Monday into Tuesday.   Unfortunately, this will be a deadly storm that still may impact parts of coastal Florida, coastal Georgia and the coast of the Carolinas to some degree.

Coastal residents from southeastern Florida to the North Carolina / Virginia border should be ready for coastal flooding, heavy rip currents, some inland flooding, beach erosion, very gusty winds, heavy rain, lightning and potential tornadoes.

The National Hurricane Center is now showing Dorian as a Category 4 major hurricane at Monday landfall along the eastern coast of Florida.
This is a deadly serious situation and we are asking that all persons in Florida prepare for the worst. IF YOU ARE GIVEN MANDATORY EVACUATION ORDERS, FOLLOW THOSE ORDERS!

ADDITIONAL: August 28, 2019 12 noon EDT – Atmospheric instability along it’s track can ultimately change the final landfall location and timing of Dorian. NHC has the landfall cone of probability stretching from Savannah to Miami. They JUST NOW (noon Eastern time) updated their projections for a CAT 3 or higher major Hurricane at Florida/Georgia landfall. Things have slowed a bit, so they are also pushing the actual landfall out to Monday morning, September 02. That could also change again.

ALERT: Named Storm Dorian has changed it’s northerly track slightly and will be moving through the open waters between Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic over the next 18 hours. This means that there will be little or no interaction with the mountains of Hispaniola to lessen the intensity and the wind shear in the Bahamas that could keep this from intensifying has lessened in the past 12 hours . Most storm modeling agencies are seeing a Cat One or Cat Two Hurricane landfalling initially along the east coast of Florida on Sunday – with a probability cone currently from Savannah, Georgia to Miami, Florida. The storm could possibly cross Florida and enter the Gulf of Mexico where additional strengthening could take place.

All persons in Florida, southern Georgia and coastal areas of the Gulf of Mexico should be monitoring this storm carefully and should be making preparations.

ALSO, Named Storm Erin formed from a tropical depression well off the US southeast coast. Tropical Storm Erin will remain off shore as it starts to track north-northeast and will not be directly affecting the East Coast of the US except for increased high surf and gusty winds. This will be our only mention of Named Storm Erin.

Named Storm Dorian formed from a low pressure wave approximately 700 miles east of Barbados in the central Atlantic. This Tropical Storm will move westerly for several days and will strengthen to near Hurricane status as it approaches the Lesser Antilles at the east end of the Caribbean around Tuesday, August 27.

Persons in the Lesser Antilles, Hispaniola and Florida especially should be monitoring the progress of this storm. We will update our unofficial information as needed. Also, a tropical low pressure area already off the Atlantic Coast of Florida will be tracking north-northeast bringing high surf, rip currents and moderate to heavy rainfall to most of Florida and Georgia over the next week. This low pressure area could potentially become named storm Erin.

Chantal formed in the central Atlantic from a surface low pressure area. This storm is moving toward Europe and will not affect the US. This will be our only mention of Named Storm Chantal.
