Named Storm Rafael formed in the south central Caribbean from a tropical depression. This storm will be moving northwest near Jamaica, the Cayman Islands and western Cuba before entering the southern Gulf of Mexico. Named Storm Rafael may make hurricane strength, however, it will be entering an area of unfavorable winds aloft that will most likely prevent additional development and will start to reduce the storm intensity mid to late week.
Persons along the US Gulf Coast should be monitoring the progress of this storm carefully.
