Named Storm Helene -2024 made Florida landfall east of Apalachicola, near Perry, Florida, as a Category 4 Major Hurricane. There were storm surges along the Gulf coast of Florida of up to 20 feet with 16 to 20 foot waves above that.

After landfall, the storm slowly weakened to a Category 1 and tracked north – northeast through northern Florida and most of Georgia, with significant rains felt in the Carolinas, Tennessee and part of Virginia. Catastrophic flooding has taken place in many of these areas and this storm has been responsible for many deaths. Damage analysis will be released by the National Hurricane Center and FEMA sometime soon.

As this recap is being published, the effects of this storm are still being felt along the east coast of the USA.

We are also just mentioning Named Storm Joyce – 2024 in the central Atlantic. It is a weak storm and will not be affecting the USA, so this will be our only mention of ‘Joyce’.
