ALERT ! Named Storm Ian – 2022, Update, Sept. 26.

Named Storm Ian – 2022 Update, Monday, September 26, 2022.

This storm made Hurricane status early Monday, September 26, and is undergoing an intensification cycle as it starts it’s northerly turn. As this Hurricane leaves the western Caribbean and enters the southeastern Gulf of Mexico, it will most likely strengthen into a Major Hurricane. It’s projected track will be along the Gulf Coast of Florida, just off shore. This is a worse case scenario because of the flood prone areas that will be affected by Storm Surge to the east of the center of this storm.

Persons from the Florida Keys all the way north to Panama City and possibly even Pensacola, should be monitoring Emergency Government Orders and follow those orders immediately. Not only will there be storm surge, but this slow moving, large Hurricane has the potential to produce huge amounts of rain. Totals could exceed 18 inches of rain in some areas. Persons along the Gulf Coast of Florida will be affected the most, but ALL PERSONS in Florida will be impacted in some way by this Hurricane. Florida Gulf Coast residents may experience extremely heavy rain, extremely high winds with building damage or destruction, extreme storm surge, catastrophic flooding, intense waves and tornadoes.

If you are in a flood zone and are given mandatory evacuation orders by your Emergency Government Office, follow those orders immediately. Your life may depend on it.

Named Storm Ian – 2022

Named Storm Ian – 2022 formed in the south central Caribbean from Tropical Depression #9. This storm is moving generally westerly across the southern Caribbean. Because of the very warm waters in that part of the Caribbean, this storm has the potential to rapidly develop, because these storms feed off of the warm waters that they travel over.

We are watching this system very carefully because it has the potential to get in to the southeastern Gulf of Mexico early this coming week where the water is shallower and even warmer. Persons in all Gulf Coast states, especially Florida, should be monitoring this storm very carefully. Early tracking models from international agencies are showing a Florida Gulf Coast landfall as a Major Category 3 (or above) Hurricane near Tampa Bay, Florida, Wednesday, September 28. HOWEVER, there are some weather features over the southern US that could interact with this storm and change this projected location and timing. We will update our unofficial information as conditions change. For now, persons in the entire State of Florida, Coastal Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana should be monitoring local Emergency Government news releases and follow their orders.
