East Pacific Named Storm Agatha Update May 31, 2022.

The remnant of East Pacific Hurricane Agatha is crossing southern Mexico and has just enough energy left over to merge with a west Caribbean low and possibly become a Tropical Depression later this week. It will track northeast and persons in the southern 3/4 of Florida, coastal Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana should be monitoring the developing system closely.

2022 Tropical Storm and Hurricane Season officially starts June 01, however, an east Pacific storm named Agatha will be moving across southern Mexico and potentially into the southern Gulf of Mexico. Even though the 2022 Atlantic, Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico Tropical Storm and Hurricane season doesn’t officially start until June 01, the volunteer staff at the Tropical Storm Research Center is already monitoring potential development. We will be presenting Season Preparation information in early May for Hurricane Preparedness Week.

Named Storm Wanda formed well off the US East Coast from an Atlantic low pressure area. This storm will not be affecting the coastal US, so this will be our only mention of Named Storm Wanda 2021

Named Storm Victor – 2021. “Victor” will be a short lived storm that will remain out to sea in the east central Atlantic. This will be our only mention of this storm.

Subtropical Storm Teresa formed in the central Atlantic north of Bermuda from a surface low pressure area. This storm is moving generally to the north and is forecast track more northeasterly in a few days and dissipate in the North Atlantic. We will post updates if needed regarding any unexpected movement of Named Storm Teresa, however, this may be our only mention of this storm. Named Storm Sam formed in the central Tropical Atlantic from a tropical depression. This system is moving generally northwest and will be tracking north of the Lesser Antilles Islands at the eastern end of the Caribbean. This storm’s movement projections are inconclusive at this time past Wednesday, September 29. It will be running into atmospheric conditions that may allow it to become a Major Hurricane. We will update here as needed regarding Named Storm Sam.
